Los Rios in the Sacramento Region – 100 Years of Service

For 100 years, the Los Rios colleges have been at the center of community life in the Capital Region of Sacramento.

More than a million of our region's residents received the education they needed to pursue their dreams at American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake, or Sacramento City College – and they've been able to do it close to home and for the lowest fees in the state's higher education system.

Education for Everyone

Every person deserves an education that matches their ambition. With your help, finances don't have to be a barrier for our students.

The California community college system serves more students than any other higher education system in the state – and at the lowest cost. However, California community college students have some of the greatest need.

In California

  • 42% of students are food-insecure.
  • 22% of students skipped meals for three or more days because they didn't have enough money for food.
  • 46% of students are housing-insecure.

At Los Rios

  • 25% of students are below the poverty line.
  • 20% of students are low-income.
  • 28% of students are the first in their family to attend college.

Our Unique Role

Los Rios plays a unique role in our community, providing people from every walk of life the chance (or second chance) to obtain a college degree and the marketable skills that will help them succeed and contribute to the future prosperity of Sacramento. Sixty percent of undergraduates start at community college, and Los Rios is the primary system for delivering technical education and workforce training, adult education, apprenticeship, English as a Second Language, and lifelong learning enrichment in the region.

The Los Rios community colleges will remain at the heart of the of Sacramento region's future economic success and the overall health of our community for the next 100 years because of the generosity and participation of our alumni, donors, and partners who have helped Los Rios provide this education in increasingly innovative and enriching ways to students.
