Los Rios Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The impact of COVID-19 on the students of the Los Rios colleges has been disastrous. 56% of our students are low-income and have entrusted Los Rios to help them build better lives, sacrificing much for their dreams of higher education. Now, those students are coming to us for help because they have few other places to turn.
Unfortunately, many students do not have access to reliable technology at home. Many of our students are hourly workers and often only one paycheck away from homelessness. COVID-19 has worsened all of these obstacles, turning them into emergencies. Many students are making decisions about whether to buy food, pay rent, or buy books; dealing with unexpected childcare costs as schools close throughout the region; or trying to complete assignments on their phones.
The Los Rios Colleges Foundation is calling on all our donors and corporate partners to help our students through this difficult time. Through your generosity, we have already been able to provide:
- $64,000 in direct aid to our most vulnerable students through the Student Emergency Fund
- Refurbished computers for students without access to one at home
- Grocery gift cards to students who have lost their income
- Hotel vouchers to homeless students
