Honor a Legacy. Help a Student. Build the Future.
Support the Los Rios Student Emergency Fund in tribute to Chancellor Brian King’s legacy.
A Legacy of Student Success
For over a decade, Chancellor Brian King has led the Los Rios Community College District with a deep commitment to access, equity, and student achievement. Under his leadership, tens of thousands of students from under-resourced communities have moved closer to degrees, careers, and economic mobility.
But for many, one unexpected bill—a car repair, medical emergency, or rent increase—can derail that progress. The Student Emergency Fund (SEF) provides urgent, one-time financial support to students facing unexpected hardships—housing insecurity, job loss, car repairs, or medical emergencies—that threaten their ability to stay in school.
Since 2020, more than 20,000 students have received aid through SEF, helping them remain enrolled and focused on completing their education. With public relief funding now gone, private philanthropy is critical to sustaining this vital safety net so that student can stay enrolled, graduate and move on to their dream careers.
As he prepares to retire in June 2026, we invite you to honor Chancellor King’s legacy by investing in the students and cause he has tirelessly championed.
The Need is Real and Urgent...
Many Los Rios students face daily financial challenges:
- 46% are low-income
- 27% are first-generation college students
- 14% report being unhoused
- 27% are single parents
- 18% are immigrants or refugees
- 100% face a financial emergency when they apply
...But the Emergency Fund’s Impact is Powerful
- 83% of students who received a Student Emergency Fund grant re-enrolled from the fall to the spring semester, compared to only 67% of students who did not receive a grant
- 94% of students who received emergency aid graduated—slightly outpacing the completion rate of their peers without financial crises
A Campaign with Impact
To honor Chancellor King and support students now and in the future, help us reach our campaign goal of $1,000,000 by Brian’s retirement in June 2026 and help ensure no student has to choose between an education and an unexpected crisis. Your gift today builds hope, stability, and a path to graduation.
