Deborah is smiling because she just received a $2,000 scholarship. Deborah has been working very hard in the SCC nursing program. Currently Deborah has a 3.5 GPA and she is going to graduate in May of 2010. Deborah Silva Scholarship

Deborah is a single mother of two young girls and returned to school to make a better life for her family. Deborah was driving down the highway when she learned she she was the recipient of a $2,000 scholarship. She had to pull over immediately due to her excitement and call her family. Deborah has never earned anything like this in her life. Deborah has exhausted her personal savings, and does receive some financial aid, but she has had to maintain her job as a hairstylist in order to make ends meet each month. During the award ceremony Deborah explained to the committee that her monthly finances never pencil out, but every month it just seems to work. Some months she is able to work an extra shift or two, other months her bills might not be as high as anticpated and now she can relax just a little because she earned a $2,000 scholarship with her hard work as a student.

She explained to the scholarship committee that she always brings her nursing books along to everything. If a client is late for a hair appointment, she studies; if she has to wait in a long line at the bank, she studies; when she is making dinner for the family, she studies. Her whole life is centered on doing well in nursing school and becoming a valued nurse for our region

The scholarship Deborah recieved is awarded based on many factors: grades, need and professional potential. Deborah is considered to be one of the top students in her nursing class and according to her professors she is always well prepared, has the highest ethical values and is very concientious about learning and giving the highest quality nursing care possible.
